We are nearing the end of our renovation at the Akta Lakota Museum & Cultural Center! Construction on the Tokéya uŋkí nájiŋpi (We Stood Here in the Beginning) Historical & Alumni Center began in October 2011 with an expected completion date of May 2013.

St. Joseph’s Indian School is pleased to announce the project is on schedule!

The new reception area separates the Akta Lakota Museum & Cultural Center from the Historical & Alumni Center.
Wiring is being done at the construction site.
Wiring is nearly complete!

Split Rock Studios, our exhibit fabricators have:
  • completed exhibits;
  • installed the audio/video components;
  • installed the photo murals in the Camp Circle exhibit area and
  • installed cabinets and other items in the new children’s area.
Exhibits are coming together.
Final details of each exhibit are coming together!
Murals are being put up.
Photo murals are installed.

After April 1, contractors will return to campus to complete work on the Medicine Wheel Garden and begin the parking lot expansion.

The date for the dedication of the Tokéya uŋkí nájiŋpi Historical & Alumni Center has been set for May 12, 2013.
